*Age refers to the age your child is as of July 31, 2009.
Cheerleading:
Cheerleading squads are also offered for boys and girls ages 5-13.
The age of your child will determine what team they will cheer with
(there are no weight requirements). All other requirements are the
same as football players. Practice schedule will be given out by
the coaches. Along with games, the cheer squad also goes to
competitions throughout the state.
Practices:
Practices begin on August 1, 2009. Practice days and times will be
determined by the coaching staff. The number of practices per week
ranges from 3-5 and time length from 2-2½ hours. Once school
begins, the number of practices will be reduced. The locations of
practices are the Chatham Fairgrounds and the Ghent Town Park.
Parents are urged to stay at practice in case of foul weather (heat,
lightning, extreme cold, snow, or rain).
Games:
Regular season games begin in September. All teams play 8
regular season games except for Flag plays which plays 6 games. All home games will be
played at Chatham High School. Games may be scheduled for Saturday
or Sunday. The regular season normally concludes in late
October; however, should teams perform well, there are additional playoff games
that may extend the season.
Fundraising:
We are a nonprofit organization so fund raising is critical to cover
our many expenses. We do fund raisers throughout the year. Other
events will be held during the season. We do not make these fund
raisers mandatory, but we urge everyone to participate as much as
they can. Remember we do all of this to buy necessary equipment and
to curtail sign up fees.
We have had great success with both football and cheerleading teams,
and we expect a strong commitment from both parents and children who
participate. This has been a fun and rewarding experience for our
kids for the last 9 years. Please help it continue.
